OnlyFans is now home to an unexpected set of creators: long-gone artists from centuries ago.
Having had enough of strict censorship regulations established by social media platforms, the Vienna tourism board has turned to the famous adults-only platform and launched an account filled with “18+ content”… of art from four of its most prominent museums.
This comes after Facebook and Instagram took down the Leopold Museum’s 20th-anniversary video this year for containing “potentially pornographic” imagery, according to CNN. And in July, TikTok suspended and banned the Albertina Museum’s account for displaying a partially-exposed breast in the work of Japanese artist and photographer Nobuyoshi Araki.
As part of an initiative called Vienna Strips on OnlyFans, subscribers can gain access to nude, provocative work from artists like Egon Schiele, Richard Gerstl, Koloman Moser and Amedeo Modigliani for US$4.99 a month.
Vienna says the “new wave of prudishness” has compelled it to turn to the online platform of sex workers, where it can freely upload centuries-old “explicit” pieces without the risk of being censored or banned. These artworks remain in their original physical showcases, and just have a new digital home.
“Open-minded” subscribers will also receive a free Vienna City Card, or a free ticket to the Leopold Museum, Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, Naturhistorisches Museum Vienna and Albertina, to view the racy art “in the flesh.”
