Tesla’s ‘Sentry Mode’ was developed as a security feature for the cars, making sure that, in the event of an unfortunate incident, owners will be able to access footage and see what—or who—caused damage to the vehicle.
Its newest update, Live Camera Access, focuses on allowing its owners to keep an eye on their vehicle even while away, making sure that no harm can be done to the precious EV. This comes in the form of “live streaming,” which allows owners to watch a live feed from the car’s surrounding cameras via the app.
In addition to this, there’s another pretty nifty feature that can be used to thwart potential troublemakers. Using the smartphone’s microphone, owners can speak to people around the vehicle.
This is done via an external speaker installed under the car, which was incorporated in January 2019 as part of a pedestrian warning system.
As if a car suddenly speaking a warning wasn’t already bound to spook someone, there’s also the option to turn your voice low and ominous. So, yes, if sounding like the Darth Vader has ever been a dream of yours, here’s your chance.
And there is, presumably, some mirth to be found in watching the potential car vandals make a run for it.
Twitter user dezmondOliver, a Tesla Model X owner, posted a brief clip demonstrating the new feature. Watch it below:
Here is an example of the new @Tesla sentry mode app feature. It changes your voice too. I can’t wait to talk to people as they walk by! Thank you @elonmusk! pic.twitter.com/lexqyjweAk
