Someone at IKEA Singapore’s food marketing team was feeling goth one day and decided to launch these
wholly black hotdogs, whose only pops of color come from the optional condiments you choose to drizzle them with. Bafflingly, this wasn’t even a Halloween special, as the snack only made its haunting debut in the country on November 1.
Both the sausage and bun, and even the black-tinted gooey cheese filling, get their ghoulish shade from edible charcoal, though the rationale behind this decision is unclear.
For whatever reason, the sausage is also extra-long, exceeding both corners of the bun. At SG$2 (US$1.48), though, it makes a substantial—albeit hard-to-swallow—snack.
Although IKEA in Japan released a similar menu item
in 2016, touting bamboo charcoal’s detox properties, the bizarro hotdog is once again astounding far corners of the internet after the Singaporean leg decided to launch it this month. Since then, the snack has landed in neighboring Malaysia too, according to Malaysian news outlet
SAYS.
You’re likely wondering how the black version compares to the usual IKEA hotdog. Aside from length, Singaporean publication
Mothership describes its taste and texture as indistinguishable from the original. However, comfortable eye contact with strangers isn’t guaranteed.
So uh, ikea in singapore decided to release a completely black hotdog. from
