Hasbro has been exploring numerous packaging redesigns in hopes to completely ditch single-use plastic by the end of 2022. To be phased out are materials like shrink wrap, blister packs, polybags, and elastic bands.
So far, it’s managed to find workarounds quite easily, filling out spaces where plastic materials would be with graphics, Core77 reports.

More of a challenge is how to revamp action figure boxes, as the toys are usually displayed in plastic windows instead of hidden from view. Using the same concept of printing the character on the front wouldn’t work here, because collectors need to know that they’re getting what they’ve paid for, especially when purchasing goods in the resale market—where switch-and-return frauds are common. Scammers are known to purchase toys, keep certain parts, then swap them out.
Hasbro has at least one solution to outsmart these scammers, thankfully. As Core77 shares, it has patented an anti-tampering, eco-friendly packaging mechanism with a special lock that makes it impossible to put the figurine back after it’s been removed.
