Nike Sues Lululemon For At-Home Workout App Patent Infringements

Sportswear giant Nike has filed a lawsuit against Lululemon, claiming that the latter has infringed on six of its patents through its Mirror fitness device and accompanying smartphone app.
Nike alleges that it invented and filed a patent on an application back in 1983 for a device that could track running speed, distance, time, and calories burned, which it has since included in its very own Nike Running Club app, as per CNBC.
According to CNET, the brand is now claiming that Lululemon’s “nearly invisible home gym” screen Mirror—which it acquired in 2020—has infringed on the patent from way back then. However, it doesn’t seem Lululemon will give in without a fight.
“The patents in question are overly broad and invalid. We are confident in our position and look forward to defending it in court,” a Lululemon spokesperson told CNBC.
