World’s First NFT Restaurant Will Open Its Doors In New York City

In case you weren’t aware, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have taken over nearly aspect of life. Now, it’s coming for the private dining scene, with the world’s first NFT restaurant opening its doors next year.

The venture, named Flyfish Club, is the brainchild of VCR Group, helmed by famed American entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk. It will be situated in New York City and will operate as a members-only joint where patrons have to purchase an exclusive NFT membership card to gain entry. 

According to The National News, there are only a limited number of tokens up for grabs: 2,650 tokens for regular membership, and 385 for the upper-tier omakase membership. Naturally, some tokens will eventually make it onto a secondary market, where they’ll be resold for a hiked-up price depending on the market.

If you’re fortunate enough to land a regular membership—which costs 2.5 Ethereum, or over US$8,000—you’ll be granted entry into the cocktail lounge, seafood restaurant, and private club events.

Big spenders with the omakase membership (4.25 Ethereum, or over US$13,000) will gain additional access to the 14-seater omakase room for private dining experiences.

However, as per Robb Report, the membership fees don’t cover the cost of your purchases in the establishment. Members will still have to pay for food and beverages with regular (fiat) money once they’ve gained entry to the club, though they can look forward to being served by a master sushi chef with fresh fish flown in from Japan.

Flyfish Club is scheduled to open in the first or second quarter of 2023.
