Huawei Unveils ‘Smart Office’ Ecosystem, Including Its First E-Ink Tablet

On Sunday, Huawei unveiled a new lineup of Smart Office products designed to work together under a Super Device system, allowing users a seamless cross-device experience.
Seven products were launched, including the brand’s first all-in-one PC, e-ink tablet, and printer, alongside its latest flagship laptop, a two-in-one laptop, HarmonyOS tablet, and a portable speaker.
The MatePad Paper is the firm’s first venture into an e-ink tablet, which is designed mainly to be used as a reading and writing device. A 10.3-inch grayscale display boasts 256 shades of monotone hues, as reported by Engadget, and the device will also be compatible with Huawei’s M Pencil.
This means documents and books can be annotated directly on the MatePad Paper’s screen, which the company says has a sensitivity of 26ms. Coupled with its matte surface, it appears poised to deliver a satisfyingly smooth writing experience.
Huawei’s Super Device system will connect all the devices together by simplifying dragging and dropping icons to the PC, which serves as a “central hub” of sorts. Previously, this took the form of ‘Multi-screen Collaboration’ between a phone and tablet or PC.
“Users can enjoy an efficient video conference after they connect a PC to a smart screen to form a Super Device,” the product launch press release writes. “They can open up to three windows of a phone on the PC screen after the two devices are connected for multi-tasking.”
Other examples given are of a Super Device formed by a PC and monitor, or one comprising a PC, tablet, and stylus.
William Tian, the president of Huawei’s Western Europe Consumer Business Group, tells Reuters that these devices would appeal to those who are working from home since they enable easeful collaboration.
“These are not standalone devices,” he states. “We can connect and collaborate much easier with our Super Device concept.”
Despite the US trade ban, which stopped Huawei phones using Android properly, Tian has stated that Huawei is confident in keeping its “leading position in the smartphone category” by investing in new technologies.
