Nearly a year after its initial launch, the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), undoubtedly the most prominent non-fungible token (NFT) collection on the market, has announced it will be starring in a movie trilogy.
The series, dubbedThe Degen Trilogy, which will be produced by Coinbase, will see its first part premiere in June as an accompaniment to the company’s launch of its NFT marketplace.
According to CNET, a “degen” is a slang term in the NFT community for someone who buys cryptocurrencies or virtual assets without knowing exactly what they’re getting into.
At the moment, not much has been revealed about the film, including its directors or actors. But if you’ve got a Coinbase wallet at the go, you can connect it to the official site for an interactive sneak peek behind the scenes.
Interestingly, it appears owners of BAYC NFTs will get to audition their apes to appear in the films.
As each ape dons a different appearance, Coinbase has asked owners to come up with an intriguing backstory to their character, and they could receive a US$10,000 licensing fee if it’s featured in the movies.
Will your ape get the lead role? Or might it appear in a scene with a thousand other extras? We’ll find out soon enough.
