Google Finally Unveils Its First Smartwatch To Challenge Apple For The Crown
By Alexa Heah, 12 May 2022
Google has given fans a long-awaited sneak peek of its Pixel Watch, the very first smartwatch from the brand tasked to take on Apple.
According to a blog post, the company said the watch would have a bold, circular domed design made out of recycled stainless steel, feature a tactile crown, and customizable bands that can easily be switched out.
Plus, as part of a collaboration with Fitbit, the watch will provide wearers with the latest in the brand’s fitness tools as well as Google’s latest Wear OS for everything else.
While the technology giant is still keeping mum on most of the details, it did say the Watch would be a “natural extension” of the current Pixel lineup, and is scheduled to hit shelves in the fall.
James Park, Fitbit’s founder, told CNET in an interview prior to the announcement that he expects more of Fitbit’s functions to be added to the Pixel Watch in the future, saying it would eventually be equipped with the “most advanced health sensors.”
Pricing details and more information about the Pixel Watch’s features will be released in the coming months.
