Chanel To Open Extra-Exclusive Private Stores For Its Best Clients
By Alexa Heah, 26 May 2022
Late last year, it was revealed that Chanel had increased its prices by nearly two-thirds since 2019, with the costs of its handbags soaring up to 60% higher than before the pandemic.
Now, reports have emerged that the luxury fashion label is intending on setting up private boutiques for its very top clients.
In an interview with Business of Fashion, Chanel CFO Philippe Blondiaux said the brand is looking to “protect” its pre-existing customers, with plans for private boutiques that will service these clients in “a very exclusive way.”
At the moment, as per Highsnobiety, Chanel operates 250 retail stores worldwide—approximately half the number of its rivals Louis Vuitton and Gucci.
As such, given the brand’s growing popularity over recent years, many of its stores are seeing snaking lines of customers waiting to get their hands on the latest launches.
Could Chanel’s plan to open the first of these private boutiques in Asia from 2023 propel it to the highest tier of luxury goods? There’s one thing that’s certain: its handbags are about to get much more exclusive.
