Beware—with the release of Stranger Things 4 on May 27, the dreaded Upside Down has infiltrated not only screens but throughout this world as well.
Something has gone awry, as it often does with this dimension, causing portals to rip open in famous landmarks across 14 countries, essentially turning the world “Upside Down.”
Each of the 15 illuminated rifts differs based on the nature of the hotspot it conquers.
In New York City, for instance, the ghastly dimension sends a crack running down the Empire State Building. For the most forbidden view, fans are lured to stand from the coordinates 40.7411 N 73.9894 W.
Australia’s Bondi Beach has been turned topsy-turvy with a gateway opening up on its sands, revealing glowing red vines. Locals can rest easy that the menacing dimension won’t turn the rest of Down Under Upside Down, as lifeguards have cordoned off the area. Scientists in hazmat suits will patrol the affected zone, just in case.

In Milan, Italy, the Palazzo Carminati is an eerie sight, having been engulfed by the Upside Down. 80s-inspired throwback logos all over Duomo Square prove this is not just a nightmare.

Other real-world conquests by the Upside Down include Malecon Barranquilla in Colombia; the Gateway of India in Mumbai; Menara Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia; Al-‘Ula National Monument in Saudi Arabia; Cologne Media Park in Germany; XBox Plaza in Downtown Los Angeles; Wawel Castle in Krakow, Poland; Medborgarplatsen in Stockholm; the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; Telefónica building, Gran Vía 28, Madrid; and Plaza del Callao, Madrid in Spain. Sites in Shoreditch, London, and Tokyo, Japan, have also been affected.

How does one stop the monsters? We have no answer for that, but you could tune into part one of Stranger Things 4 for some clues. The second volume is slated to arrive on Netflix on July 1.
