Timberland is now landing in the metaverse with ‘Metaboots’. Under its CONSTRUCT: 10061 virtual design program, the footwear maker hopes to hone in on the virtual-reality shift and bring a whole new experience to fans of its shoes.
In collaboration with Fortnite’s parent company Epic Games, Timberland is utilizing its technology to bring not only boots but also custom worlds where users can explore and get a behind-the-scenes experience of the boot-designing process.
Three different islands are also being released for users to explore. Each island hosts a different sort of environment, arctic, desert, and forest. These are accompanied by a ‘Metaboot’ fit for each climate and terrain that users can use to traverse the world, all of which are in Fortnite’s animation style.
The collaboration was made possible alongside BeyondCreative, a game studio that works to bring together Fortnite experiences with a multitude of brands.
The concept debuted at Milan Design Week at Timberland’s flagship store, Orefici11. Visitors could get a hands-on experience as physical versions of the boots were available in the store. Live footage of the worlds within the metaverse was also shown in the store.
