Do you have what it takes to be the next old woman who lived in a shoe? Then your time might be now. Airbnb is dedicating US$10 million to the wildest dreamers who can come up with the most outlandish houses.
The new OMG! Fund encourages designers, architects, and DIYers all over the world to bring forth their most outrageous home ideas to join Airbnb’s lineup of ‘OMG!’ rentals, which include a live-in UFO, a yellow submarine, and a giant potato.
The fund will be distributed among 100 creators “of the craziest and most unique property ideas” to make their fever-dream homes a reality. Submissions will be evaluated by centenarian style icon Iris Apfel; Potato Hotel creator Kristie Wolfe; Koichi Takada, the founder of Koichi Takada Architects; and Airbnb’s VP of Experiential Creative Product Bruce Vaughn.
According to the company, wacky homes are worth more than their entertainment factor, and have helped their hosts rake in significant incomes. It also says that bookings for unique properties went up by over 49% from 2019 to 2021.
The campaign launched on June 22 and will conclude on July 22. More details are available here.
