Mattel Creates David Bowie ‘Hunky Dory’ Doll For Album’s 50th Anniversary
If you were one of the lucky ones to snag Mattel’s first limited-edition David Bowie doll, commemorating the Ziggy Stardust era, here’s another one to add to your collection.
In celebration of the singer’s famed 1971 hit Hunky Dory, the toymaker has released a new Barbie Signature Collection Bowie doll—decked out in full costume and makeup.
Clad in the signature powder blue suit as seen in the Life On Mars music video, the doll completes the iconic look with matching baby blue eyeshadow, platform shoes, and a floral-patterned tie.
“It’s a tribute to Bowie—his outfit, his makeup, his features—to emulate his essence and make sure it looked like Barbie, but as Bowie,” explained Linda Kyaw-Merschon, who recreated the legendary look together with her team.
The limited-edition collector’s item is now available for US$50 at Mattel Creations.
