The rise of gun violence has left people and brands scrambling to protect themselves and others by drawing attention to the issue.
In the case of creative agency Mother, which has recently launched Mother Goods, it is offering up bullet-resistant leisurewear to keep people safe in their own living rooms.
The company has set up a website and an Instagram account dedicated to its newest product and advocacy campaign, Kickback Loungewear. The line is a bullet-resistant Kevlar collection of clothes that were designed to allow wearers to “kick back” and relax without having to worry about pistols or rifles.
Kickback is a collectionconsistingof a lounge robe, room slippers, an eye mask, a beer cozy, and a lawn chair.
Previously, most of its campaigns have been limited to the digital world. But now it’s taking a step into our real world by creating a shopfront where organizations can purchase or rent the goods. It is also currently involved in a host of other IPs that will be available for other brands to obtain.
Profits generated from all of its various campaigns will be donated to representative organizations that align with the cause.
In addition to the bullet-resilient capsule collection, the brand also announced a look into the unhealthy obsession people have with their phones by creating a luxury phone case with handcuffs attached, called ‘Cûf’. Other projects include a line of T-shirts “printed with the blood of gay men” and ‘Lullabombs’, a lullaby device for LGBTQ+ kids in Russia.
Mother often uses creative approaches to raise awareness for various social issues such as gay rights, women’s equality, and, most recently, gun violence. These include floating a giant inflatable breast on top of buildings to normalize breastfeeding, and designing a ‘Luxury Diapér’ with Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop.
