Uber Eats Will Now Deliver Cannabis Right To Your Front Door In Canada
By Nicole Rodrigues, 18 Oct 2022
Gone are the days of shady dealings in alleyways and meetups in parking lots as one tries to procure some marijuana. Instead, Uber Eats wants all pot enthusiasts to stay comfy as the weed comes knocking on their front door.
Residents in Toronto (aged 19 and up) will soon be able to find weed on their Uber Eats apps via an online marijuana retailer known as Leafly, which will bring services from three dispensaries: Hidden Leaf, Minerva, and Shivaa’s Rose.
With this new option, obtaining weed is bound to be as easy as ordering tacos.
First, users will find a dedicated section titled ‘Cannabis’ on the app. A popup will appear when you click on it, asking you to verify your age. Once you’re in, you can choose from one of the retailers’ menus and order the item as you would with food.
Delivery will be handled by CannSell, an Ontario-based cannabis education program. Upon dropping the goods off, a CannSell staff member will again ask for ID verification and for the customer to prove their sobriety before it is handed over to them.
Leafly and Uber both state that the idea behind the new delivery system is to prevent people from driving around while high. Not only that, but they hope to combat the illegal underground market for non-medical pot as well.
Additionally, this is the first time marijuana delivery services will be accessible via a third-party app. Since both businesses are focusing on launching in the Greater Toronto Area first, there is, unfortunately, little information on whether the service will catch on in the United States or even the rest of Canada.
