This year, Coca-Cola India is using iconic bottles to bring families closer over Diwali, a festival of lights observed by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains.
This time of year is a special time for friends and family to get together. This time, they can do so thanks to Coca-Cola.
In contrast to the standard Coca-Cola bottles, the limited-edition beverages have a Bluetooth-enabled lock on the top of the container, where a red plastic cover encases the lid.
The locks are secured by the sender’s phone, and those who receive the bottle will only be able to open their drinks when visiting the gifter in person.
The latch reads, “Yeh Locked Coke sirf apno ke sath khulega,” which translates to “This locked Coke will only open with loved ones.”
Special Diwali-themed boxes come with each piece, and people can also customize them with their own heartfelt messages.
The idea of using Coca-Cola as an invite was realized by advertising agency Ogilvy India. The campaign will be hosted over social media and television and endorsed by local influencers.
Coca-Cola states that the locked bottles are a “first-of-its-kind innovation,” and it hopes that people all over India will accept the invitation to come together over some Coke this holiday.
The sealed drinks will only be available in India and can be purchased through a dedicated site accessible only by mobile.
