Not too long ago, Gen Z discovered Kate Bush. Now, their eyes are on the Fujifilm X100 series.
The digital camera lineup, the first iteration of which debuted 12 years ago, is having a moment on TikTok right now, with the #fujifilmx100v hashtag amassing 3.2 million views and #fujifilmxt100 gathering 1.1 million views.
If these numbers mean little to you, then the growing value for the Fujifilm X100 might change things. As tracked by FujiAddict and PetaPixel, prices for the Fujifilm X100 cameras have surged dramatically of late—all things considered, since the aforementioned Fujifilm X100V and X-T100 were released in 2020 and 2018 respectively.
The Fujifilm X100V, the latest model of the fixed-lens mirrorless series, entered the market two years ago for US$1,399. However, prices listed on Amazon have climbed to around US$3,000. That’s how much or more than people are forking out for newer Canon, Nikon, and Sony full-frame cameras.
As for second-hand Fujifilm X100 cameras, PetaPixel discovers they’re now going for about US$1,000, up from just a few hundred dollars.
The resurgence of interest surrounding this camera selection is understandable. Not only are the Fujifilm X100 cameras already a favorite in the photography community, but they’re also digital devices that look like vintage film versions and produce similar effects. In other words, they marry the best of both worlds, possessing the ease and intuition of digital options while delivering the quality of analog.
Every generation has an idea of retro that it adores. Millennials loved typewriters and 80s video games. Gen Z, which makes up most of TikTok’s audience, has been into Y2K fashion and a semblance of the pre-smartphone days of photography.

An accompanying app for Fujifilm X100 offers presets that yield an aesthetic reminiscent of classic film. The payoff is too attractive to ignore, given that “no editing” is required to achieve the intended results.
“This camera will change your life,” says photographer Kylie Katich, who has been documenting her experience with a Fujifilm X100, in a TikTok video.
Other photographers have chimed in on their love for the camera series. “Hands down my favorite camera,” shares filmmaker Edward Lee.
“I will not stop making this camera my entire personality,” lauds a user named Rosie. See some of the results for yourself below.

As you may know, when things get famous on TikTok, they become famous-famous. The company is aware of its golden touch and has just opened an educational platform called ‘TikTok Academy’, where it hosts free marketing courses for brands looking to take their businesses off the ground on the app.
