In the 11 years since Siri’s debut, we’ve grown accustomed to saying “Hey, Siri” when we need help from the virtual assistant.

Now, it seems Apple could be looking to simplify the command, as per reports by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who recently said the digital assistant may soon respond to just “Siri” instead.

While it may seem like a subtle change, Gurman revealed that even removing a single word from the trigger phrase involves a “significant amount” of re-training the artificial intelligence model, along with other engineering work.

If all goes to plan, it’s likely Apple will roll out the change next year or the year after, as it continues to test the new phrase with employees while it collects necessary training data to ensure the algorithm keeps up with its competitors, like Amazon Alexa and Google Nest.

Currently, users can already wake Alexa by just saying its name, while Google Assistant still requires either “Hey Google” or “Ok Google” to register commands.
