Google Maps Adds ‘Point-And-Shoot’ Search For Detailed, Live Views
By Nicole Rodrigues, 29 Nov 2022
Over the course of the last year, Google Maps has been steadily rolling out new features to make the app more immersive and accessible to its users. For example, previously, it offered a new mode where people could ‘vibe check’ a new neighborhood before heading down. Google used artificial intelligence and crowdsourcing to conjure up these ‘vibes’ for people to review.
Now, Google is ready to introduce a new upgrade called Search with Live View, allowing users to point and shoot at a location to receive directions and information about the area using AR.
All you have to do is tap on the camera icon in the search bar and hold your phone up to the area or landmark you are standing by. After that, different pop-ups will appear, giving you insight into the neighborhood, including restaurants, ATMs, public transport, and even the nearest EV charging station.
On top of that, you will also be able to see reviews, operating hours, and how busy a place is right through the Live View.
Currently, Search with Live View will only be available to Android and iOS users in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris, and Tokyo.
