Nike Unveils ‘No Finish Line’ Book Casting Design Vision For Next Half Century
By Alexa Heah, 11 Jan 2023
While most people would struggle to imagine what the world will be like 20 years into the future, Nike is jumping forward and already planning for its next five decades ahead. After the sportswear giant celebrated its half-century mark last year, it seems it is now gearing toward an exciting future.
Titled No Finish Line, the book includes a foreword by journalist Chief Design Officer John Hoke, speculative fiction by journalist Geoff Manaugh, and essays by author Sam Grawe that touch on five major design shifts the brand expects to undergo in the coming years.
In order to come up with these seismic shifts, Grawe included interviews with over a dozen of the brand’s designers, scientists, engineers, researchers, and leaders—giving readers “unprecedented insights” into the creative process behind the global powerhouse.
Through collective voices, Nike hopes to convey a future of design that will propel readers forward toward the “no finish line,” a phrase that defines the retailer’s drive to always remain at the cutting edge of innovation, be it through the lens of athletes, designers, or researchers.
Alongside inspiring words, the pages of the book will hold custom illustrations by Bráulio Amado and synthesized imagery by PWR, all of which come together to create graphic-rich layouts and visual collages meant to spark creativity and innovation.
“When we say, ‘There is no finish line,’ it’s not a lazy reference to an unending grind or destination-less journey, but rather an expression of our belief in the limitless potential of sport—and design,” writes Hoke.
No Finish Line retails for US$26 and will hit shelves on February 14. Head here for more information on where to get a copy.
