Everyone’s favorite dog on fire is looking at its last days on creator KC Green’s roster of characters as the artist is considering letting the canine be finally put to rest.
The On Fire comic strip first cropped up in 2013 as part of a webcomic Gunshow. Most might be familiar with the sight of a little yellow dog—named Question Hound—in his little hat surrounded by flames as he sips from his coffee mug and tells himself that, well, “this is fine.”
We passed it a couple days ago, but it has been 10 years since "On Fire", the strip I did that became the meme "this is fine". https://t.co/AxZxDYkICs pic.twitter.com/STFYX4XS9B

But what most might not know is that the comic ends with the dog melting in the fire, having succumbed to it. So it’s ironic that a meme that has sparked much enthusiasm and a cult following doesn’t have a happy ending.
The imagery evokes more than just laughter as many could connect with having that feeling of their world caving in, and yet there’s nothing you can do about it but sit and take a sip and let the figurative flames engulf you.
Of course, On Fire has taken on lighter scenarios, like college kids using it to describe how they haven’t studied for an exam or other minor inconveniences. The meme has taken a life of its own as celebrities and even government bodies have taken part in the fun to convey a more relatable image to their audiences.
Question Hound is a meme that has a chameleon quality of sorts. People can adapt it to countless scenarios to convey their own trials and tribulations in a self-deprecating manner that most would find funny. But as time goes on, it has grown to represent more than personal struggles and instead is used to represent the state of our world and climate.
With the celebration of the 10th anniversary, the internet sensation might be meeting its maker once again as the artist looks to greener pastures and hopes to find success with his other characters.
Question Hound is seen running off into the woods in a deranged state in one of the most recent editions of the creator’s comics. Green doesn’t know if he’ll ever emerge from the forest as he looks to give the dog some time off and let him rest somewhere in the woods.
