Spam Unleashes Clothing Line To Take The Pantry Staple To The Street
By Nicole Rodrigues, 20 Jan 2023
Spam is most known for its famous tins of meat that have saved amateur chefs and busy parents everywhere when cooking dinner. When one thinks of the product, images of salty, umami flavors might come to mind—but never crewneck sweaters and tote bags.
The brand is leaping into the fashion sphere with the help of Nom Life, an online site that hosts travel guides and reimagined Asian recipes, to create a capsule collection that is sure to have any diehard fan of Spam salivating.
The collection consists of Spam-branded crewneck sweaters, T-shirts, tote bags, and, of course, dad hats, each sporting either Spam flavors or a stylized graphic of the staple.
Ewa Ko from Nom Life describes the partnership as a special moment for her and her partner Jeromy as both had grown up eating pork from a can. The inspiration behind the designs for the clothes came from old band T-shirts and Spam’s design history.
There’s no denying that the clothes look appealing. Spam joins a roster of other brands that have since tried to reach a new audience by launching into the fashion sphere. In addition, this movement seems to try and capture a younger, more fashion-focused audience by banking on nostalgia through aesthetic means.
Spam x Nom Life is available online, and prices range from US$20 to US$50.
