Following her viral campaign for Louis Vuitton featuring soccer superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Annie Leibovitz is back with another collaboration, this time with furniture giant IKEA.

The Swedish firm recently named the famed photographer as its latest Artist in Residence, inviting her to turn the lens to homes and capture a more authentic representation of everyday life.

In its Home Report 2022, the brand outlines poll findings that 48% of individuals did not feel that the media accurately represented the reality of their lives at home. As such, it’s turning to Leibovitz, famed for being able to “capture the inner life” of her subjects.

“The home has always been important in my work. I’ve been photographing people in their homes since I began. It’s a way to understand who a person is,” reveals Leibovitz.

Through her images, IKEA hopes to unravel candid truths and profound aspects of human life that households share within their four walls. During her time as Artist in Residence, she will travel across the world to photograph residents in their homes.

People from seven different countries, including Japan, the US, Germany, Italy, India, Sweden, and England, will feature in these shoots, culminating in a series of 25 portraits that will help bring to what “life at home” truly means to the forefront.

As IKEA describes in its Home Report, our homes reflect who we are and have “a powerful, positive effect on the way we view our homes, ourselves, and whatever’s happening in the world around us.”
