If you’re heading to Paris and looking for a unique vacation home, Airbnb is offering guests the chance to live in the very opera house that inspired Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom Of The Opera.
For the first time, the iconic Parisian opera house Palais Garnier will be open for an overnight stay, with guests shacked up in the most exclusive viewing platform in the entire arena—the Box of Honour.
According to Airbnb, this special staycation was organized in commemoration of the acclaimed musical’s 15-country run this year, and as a send-off before the curtains close on the play for the final time on Broadway.
The opulent Neo-Baroque locale—which is now owned by the great-granddaughter of the French novelist—will be turned into a special bedroom just for this “exceptional night,” and it will not only include a night’s luxury stay, but also be complete with other special experiences.
Lucky guests will be taken on an underground tour of the lake to “haunt” the famed phantom's lair, get a glimpse of a recital performed by artists in the opera’s academy, learn ballet at a private initiation, and even dine at the Foyer de la Danse.
“My great-grandfather’s classic story has inspired so many people through the years. This is the perfect time to honor him and welcome ‘phans’ to the famous setting of his much-loved novel for a once-in-a-lifetime stay,” said Véronique Leroux.
Bookings open on March 1, 2023, with the stay taking place on July 16, 2023. The one-night escapade will cost €37 (US$40) in homage to the Box of Honour’s number. Head here for more details.
