Roblox is giving more users the keys to its game-creation kingdom with artificial intelligence tools that breathe life into mere text prompts. Announced last month with the hopes of turning “every user on Roblox… [into] a creator,” the new generators—‘Code Assist’ and ‘Material Generator’, with more potentially on the way—are now ready in beta.
Code Assist, an AI helper for Roblox’s Studio Script Editor for developers, aims to accelerate the scripting process by suggesting lines or functions while you type. “Our goal is to help you code smarter and faster, harnessing your full potential and maximizing your time and impact,” explains the platform.
While Code Assist is currently meant for experienced coders, Roblox intends to make it more accessible for “aspiring scripters” over time.
Material Generator works similarly to the text-to-image creators that have become rather commonplace today by allowing you to dream up architectural materials in seconds using just a few keywords, and it even adjusts their lighting.
Among the prompts in Roblox’s demonstration are “bright red rock canyon” and “brand new wood flooring.”

Since both apps are in their very early stages, Roblox doesn’t claim them to be perfect. Code Assist, for example, will still give incorrect suggestions, and will thus require human review.
Still, Roblox believes that its generative tools will one day democratize video game creation to the point where all players in the open world will be equipped to design fun experiences for everyone.
