LEGO’s colorful bricks have built a rainbow that’s deeply personal to individuals of the pride community.
Last June, the toymaker assembled LGBTQIA+ fans around the world to craft a full “alphabet of builds” representing words they held dear to their hearts. The community shared their work online, and LEGO gathered the creations to form the A–Z of Awesome.
LEGO has now announced that the collection is complete, and it plans to exhibit the entire buildable alphabet at the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark, on May 24, in time for Pride Month.
“There was a couple I saw that represented our family in the LEGO builds,” one guest recounts. “For my children to see something that’s aimed at them… it’s pretty special.”
“The wonderful thing about LEGO bricks is that they can be a powerful form of self-expression as you can build anything you can imagine,” said Alero Akuya, VP of Brand Development at the LEGO Group, last year. “We also know people love talking about what they build, so we thought it would be a great medium for sparking important and sometimes difficult conversations about identity.”
