To mark National Gummi Bear Day,which took place on April 27, 2023, popular sweet maker Haribo launched a first-of-its-kind social media video broadcast titled Good News Goldbears.
The project hoped to commemorate the “year’s sweetest holiday” with more childlike happiness by flooding the brand’s Facebook and Instagram channels with only uplifting videos.
These snippets included fan-generated content, influencer collaborations, and even news skits—with the qualifier that all of them had to be bearers of good news so that a world inundated with woes and worries would have something to smile about.
Throughout the day, fans were able to call a 24-hour hotline to leave any message of good news, which might have been added to the video broadcast—helmed by the famed Goldbears, reporters, and in-studio anchors—in real-time.
According to Pew Research, most Americans get their news fix from social media, and oftentimes, most of the headlines filling our feds are negative. Thankfully, there’s a fix to combat this feeling of doom and gloom.
A recent report by Psychology Today cited a study that suggested that the more good news is shared about the world, the more individuals are insulated from the effects of bad news. Hence Haribo’s commitment to celebrating the positive.
“Childlike happiness is at the heart of everything we do at Haribo, and National Gummi Bear Day is the perfect time to celebrate that with our consumers,” quipped Seth Klugherz, Vice President of Marketing at Haribo.
“This means remembering to smile about something silly, feeling carefree, and getting excited about the little things like a gummi treat. This year, we want to inspire childlike happiness through encouraging people to share good news that’s making them smile.”
