With the Coronation just around the corner, marketing agency DEPT has partnered with BBC’s Children in Need to create a portrait of King Charles III to mark the occasion. Unlike a simple drawing of the royal, this Royally Big Portrait features hand-drawn images made by kids.
The project, led by the artist Sam Barnett, called for children across the UK to submit illustrations of the King, all of which were combined to form the final portrait unveiled at Outernet London’s exhibition in the flesh.
To bring the portrait to life in the real world, DEPT worked with technology firm 8th Wall to turn the collage into an interactive augmented reality (AR) experience. Just by scanning a QR code with a smartphone, viewers can “visit” the portrait anywhere in the world through the dynamic webpage.
Children will enjoy exploring the playful virtual world, filled with bouncing balls, as they search through the myriad illustrations that form the King’s image to look for their own. In total, the final version of the Royally Big Portrait features hundreds of thousands of drawings of His Majesty.
One of my top #Coronation picks to see in London is this art installation ð¼ï¸
