Converse Crafts Shoes From Basketball Leather To Take Something New To The Court
By Mikelle Leow, 11 May 2023
Converse Japan is taking a shot at reinventing a basketball classic… by constructing it in basketball material.
In a collaboration with Japanese clothing brand beautiful people, the sneaker company has reworked the ERX-400 EW HI, a staple of NBA players, with the same leather used to make basketballs. Fully swathed in white, the design draws the gaze to the basketball texture.
Continuing the theme, the sneaker is attached to basketball-shaped hang tags. It also honors the brand’s heritage with 80s-esque ‘ENERGY WAVE’ midsoles.
Converse Japan notes that although this edition has a pure white colorway, its basketball material means dirt or grime can be easily wiped off with water.
The special beautiful people x Converse ERX-400 EW HI will retail in Japan from May 20 for ¥33,000 (US$245).
