Playing around with TikTok filters can sometimes be as entertaining as watching clips on the app. Now, the social network is bringing recognition to this integral part of its experience by rewarding creators when they develop trending filters and effects.
TikTok says it is dedicating US$6 million into doling out payments for users in a new Effect Creator Rewards, where it will compensate them for “high-performing effects” in participating regions, namely in the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
To encourage more users to create and publish dynamic effects, the company rolled out an augmented-reality tool called Effect House that enables people of all experience levels to design these interactive experiences last year.
TikTok’s new incentive program comes after calls from creators to more prominently recognize their efforts.
Under this new scheme, “top-performing Effect House designers” will receive US$700 for every effect used in 500,000 unique videos during the first 90 days of the feature going live. TikTok will only count one video per user daily, and it will disregard other posts from the same user that use the same filter that day.
Creators will be paid a further US$140 for every 100,000 additional videos posted with the filter within this timeframe.
TikTok explains that effect designers “help our community create and share content that brings joy to over one billion people around the world,” and it is now showing its appreciation to them through these payouts.
