This coming July marks the start of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Just ahead of the kickoff, Nike has released a look at the official kits of the 13 federations taking part in the games.
Each nation is represented via colors and cultural points that are important to different countries. These include the various identities of communities from England, France, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Brazil, Nigeria, Norway, and the US.
Brazil’s jerseys, for example, depict the foliage of the Amazon. Nigeria incorporates a stair-inspired pattern to represent the team’s rise on the global stage.
England’s kit pays homage to Wembley Stadium’s 100th anniversary by using the same off-white as the walls when it was first constructed in 1923. And its away jersey takes on an Art Deco style in honor of the design movement.
The Netherlands’ embodies different shades of blue with a print dedicated to the country’s tin-glazed earthenware. Meanwhile, in an attempt to represent soccer as an art form, Portugal’s jerseys come with a mint green print that takes after the flag and street art.
