In the 50s and 60s, milkmen came around neighborhoods delivering bottles to houses as part of a daily route. Once done with the bottles, people used to leave them outside to be collected. Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) and Milk & More are running a similar trial, but this time with one-liter bottles of Coke Zero Sugar.

Milk & More is a sustainable delivery service offering glass milk bottles that can be collected after use. It currently provides a variety of organic milk, including standard dairy, alternative milk, fruit juices, mixers, and water. According to Packaging Europe, it claims that its milk bottles, in particular, are reused an average of 28 times.

The Coke Zero Sugar drinks will come in a new glass carrier that resembles a typical 1L bottle, and can be reused up to 20 times. This could eventually lead to an 82% reduction in carbon footprint as opposed to single-use glass wear. Adding onto its sustainability, Milk & More employs electric vehicles to do all its deliveries and pickups.

Those living in South London and central southern England can now purchase the soda and participate in the trials, which started on June 5. Then, once you’re done using it, you can leave it outside, like back in the old days, for it to be picked up.

CCEP anticipates 100,000 people to participate in the trial, which will span eight to 12 weeks while stocks last.
