Pixar Releases Official Trailer For ‘Up’ Follow-Up Short, ‘Carl’s Date’
By Mikelle Leow, 13 Jun 2023
Pixar icon Carl is lifting Up, Up, and away to begin a new chapter. On June 16, fans will sadly say goodbye to the lovable grump with what will likely be the last piece of the franchise.
A new short called Carl’s Date will follow the protagonist (voiced by Ed Asner) as he gets ready for his first date since the passing of his first and one true love, Ellie. Audiences now have a first look at this mini-adventure, as Disney and Pixar have unleashed the official trailer for the film.
As is on brand with Carl, he’s reluctant to reset his dating life. Part of this apprehension is due to the fact that he doesn’t know where to begin. So he enlists the help of his ever-optimistic pal, Dug the dog (Bob Peterson), to play his wing-mutt.
Also on brand with Dug is his eagerness to help, but viewers later find out that his advice isn’t always applicable to human contexts. However, he tries, and he really does try.
Asner, who reprised his role as Carl for the short, died a few months after lending his voice to the spinoff.
Carl’s Date is slated as the opening film to Elemental, which will reach theaters on June 16. Watch its trailer below.
