A24’s ‘Scrounging’ Cookbook Lets You Recreate Iconic Movies’ Worst-Ever Meals
By Alexa Heah, 21 Jun 2023
It’s a common occurrence: forgetting to do the groceries so one has no choice but to head into the kitchen to “scrounge”—looking up edible components that can be thrown together for a quick fix. Now, indie film house A24 is bringing those hidden recipes to life with its newest cookbook.
A collaboration with chef Matty Matheson, Scrounging offers home cooks over 50 “recipes” for those looking to recreate some of the most unappetizing meals from cinematic history. Ever wanted to try Ally Sheedy’s iconic Pixy Stix sandwich from The Breakfast Club?
The book features other meals seen on the silver screen, including the likes of the maple-syrup spaghetti Will Ferrell cooks up in Elf, The Martian’s baked potato with Vicodin, and of course, the famed 12-scoop ice cream sundae from Home Alone.
New York Times Cooking contributors Sue Li came up with the dishes’ recipes and styling, while creative studio Wade and Leta was behind the lens.
Fans of Scrounging can try also try out A24’s Horror Caviar cookbook, an earlier release that showcases food inspired by seminal horror films.
