Virgin Voyages Lures Passengers On Board Cruises With Cheeky J.Lo ‘Jen AI’

It’s time for artificial intelligence generators to step aside, as ‘Jen AI’ is here—a virtual version of pop star Jennifer Lopez, that is. In its latest campaign, cruise liner Virgin Voyages is luring passengers onboard its vessels with a digital copy of the famed singer.
While the real Jennifer Lopez may not be available to kick it back and sip on cocktails with travelers, her AI likeness certainly does a good job of inviting passengers onto the high seas. Need to convince someone to come along? She’ll help.
According to the company, customers can create custom invitations for family and friends by using the special Jen AI tool. Simply answer a few questions on the event being celebrated, the destination, and chosen travel buddies for a personalized invite.
In addition, the cruise service has come up with a humorous commercial with the creative agency VMLY&R to highlight this special feature. Lopez appears as the commercial begins, introducing herself as Virgin Voyages’ Chief Celebration Officer.

However, the spot is interrupted when a virtual “glitch” appears, revealing that the Lopez speaking is, in actual fact, a man named Kyle who has made use of Jen AI—a play on the increasingly popular phrase “generative AI.” Creative technology partner Deeplocal worked on the front-end integration and built the backend to generate the video takeaway.
Nathan Rosenberg, Virgin Voyages’ Chief Brand Officer, told The Drum that the “wildly creative AI” allows the brand to make use of and poke fun at AI all at once, bringing together an “innovative and playful” use of the technology alongside the star power of a global icon. Because who can say no to J Lo?
