Taco Bell is sending Taco Tuesdays your way in a delightfully offensive way through billboards installed around the UK. The out-of-home campaign takes a bite out of British humor and vernacular by hiding a cuss word within what might look like a chipper greeting, inviting fans down to visit the fast-food chain.
On a gradient purple and orange billboard is the phrase “See You Next Tuesday.” Pretty harmless at first glance, until you see the definition beneath it that states, “A discreet method of delivering an offensive slur,” which essentially translates to C(See) U(You) N(ext) T(Tuesday).
The tongue-in-cheek (or taco-in-cheek?) advertisement comes from the minds of independent creative company The Or, who commented that the campaign hopes to spark a new movement where Brits might be more inspired to use the phrase to describe more uplifting moments for the soul, like spa days or a £2 Taco Tuesday bargain rather than seeing it as an offensive slur, according to The Drum. Lucy Dee, head of marketing at Taco Bell UK, also mentioned that life is rather unpredictable, and sometimes people need something to cheer them up.
With that, the campaign references different everyday blunders, such as festival drinks that require a bank loan to pay for or a barber doing you dirty, both of which a quick “See You Next Tuesday” seems to be in order.
