Forget Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Starbucks Is Launching A Butter Frappuccino
By Alexa Heah, 28 Aug 2023

As fall draws near, pumpkin-spice everything is soon to roll out in stores. This year, in particular, Starbucks is toasting two decades of the popular beverage with a whole new menu.
However, if that’s too boring, the coffee chain is introducing a new addition in Japan: butter. Yup, while the sweet potato is usually the star of the annual seasonal release in the nation, it appears a different ingredient will steal the show this year.
Dubbed the Osatsu Butter Frappuccino, the drink—priced at ¥678 (US$4.60)—will mix the saltiness of butter as an accompaniment to the sweet potatoes, with an extra dollop of honey added as a treat.

According to the brand, the roasted tubers will feature chunks throughout the drink so customers can sip on butter-coated potatoes in drink form, with a layer of sweet and salty fried sweet potato coated with sugar right at the bottom (imo kenpi).
On top of that, from September 22, the chain will offer a special “osatsu customization” option where one can opt for an additional honey butter sauce and salty imo kenpi.
Pair the drink with a slice of Benitama Custard Apple Pie for the perfect autumnal combination, with the fruit sourced directly from Japan’s famed apple-growing region of Aomori Prefecture.
