To commemorate the longstanding partnership between O2 and England Rugby, the mobile network giant recently unveiled a special artwork outside of one of the most famous museums in the world—the Louvre.
Developed in collaboration with the creative agency VCCP London and production studio Girl&Bear, the campaign takes a unique approach to showcasing the unmistakable passion of rugby fans. The remarkable artwork, specially commissioned to immortalize the profound influence of fans on the world of rugby, was revealed in the heart of Paris to add a touch of grandeur to the celebrations.
According toVCCP London, renowned Canadian artist Vincent McIndoe was tasked with the exclusive creation. The piece resembles Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix, which coincidentally hangs in the Louvre.
Inspired by the host nation, the artwork takes on the style of French Romanticism, beautifully capturing the intense emotions that fans experience while passionately supporting their beloved teams.
Dubbed Wear la Rose, the piece builds on O2’s ongoing Wear the Rose campaign, further solidifying one of the world’s longest-running sports shirt sponsorships.
As part of the festivities, customers planning to travel to France can look forward to a special perk: free roaming via an inclusive EU roaming plan that comes with a data allowance of up to 25 GB.
For rugbyenthusiasts following the team from their homes, the company will soon debut O2 Inside Line— an exclusive series that promises unprecedented access to the players and delivers the latest updates from the heart of the camp.
”Across thechannel there will be drama, there will be sweat and tears. We wanted to create something to match the passion and emotion shared by fans and players,” said Kimberley Gill, creative director at VCCP London.
“So, we put oil on canvas, and sailed this unique and visceral piece of art over the English Channel, to take its place on French soil.”
