Apple unveiled its latest smartphone generation on Tuesday. Despite there being five new colorways each for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, they don’t necessarily paint a rainbow.
The mid-tier iPhone 15, distinguished by its matte texture, is the more colorful of the two, with four pastel options of pink, yellow, green, blue, and black.
The iPhone 15 Pro is far more muted, and is available in black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium.
As a brand admired for its minimalism, Apple would be forgiven for dialing down on the saturation. After all, the Cupertino tech giant rarely calls these options colors—they’re “finishes.” That hasn’t stopped fans from poking fun at the company’s seeming aversion to the hue-tiful, with one person branding its preferences as “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
To be fair, Apple does go big and bold when it matters. It celebrates Pride Month each year by rolling out rainbow-themed artwork and accessories.
Most people will protect their $1,000 phones with a good-quality case anyway, so their right to express their individuality isn’t restricted.
With that, Apple has newly introduced an array of FineWoven accessories for a little pop of color. These have a suedelike feel and will replace the traditional leather. The more eco-friendly option is made up of 68% post-consumer recycled materials, and boasts “significant” savings on emissions. Granted, the FineWoven cases are pretty muted too, and consist of darker shades like mulberry, evergreen, taupe, pacific blue, and black.
