From its launch until now, users on Meta’s Threads were not able to delete their accounts without nuking the linked Instagram profile in the process.
But this will soon change, as chief privacy officer Michel Protti announced at a TechCrunch event that an update would be coming to the platform by December this year.
According to the publication, the hassle was due to the tight integration of the two platforms, which made it difficult for developers to separate the two services.

However, recent developments indicate that Meta is addressing this issue. Aside from the announcement, notable developer Alessandro Paluzzi uncovered evidence that the company was actively working on enabling the deletion of Threads accounts independently.
Once this feature is implemented when a user decides to delete their Threads profile, a permanent data deletion process will take place after 30 days.
Moreover, users will be unable to create a new account on the site that is linked to the same Instagram account for a duration of 120 days.
