The BMW R 80 G/S, a pivotal motorcycle introduced in 1980, is often hailed as the precursor to adventure bikes. Notably, it achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Dakar Rally in 1981, solidifying its status in the world of motorcycling.
In honor of its legacy, BMW has just unveiled the latest iteration of its flagship adventure motorcycle, the BMW R 1300 GS. This new model represents the culmination of BMW Motorrad’s extensive experience and dedication to innovation in adventure bikes.
The R 1300 GS is powered by an entirely new 1,300cc boxer twin engine, equipped with ShiftCam variable valve timing. The chassis produces an impressive 145 horsepower and a substantial 110 foot-pounds of torque, establishing it as the most potent GS model to date. Furthermore, the R 1300 GS is significantly lighter, shedding 26.4 pounds compared to its predecessor, the 1250 model.
This motorcycle undergoes a comprehensive structural redesign, including an updated frame and the incorporation of an advanced EVO Telelever front-end system paired with an EVO Paralever rear unit. These enhancements contribute to improved handling, agility, and overall performance.
The R 1300 GS has also received a modern makeover, featuring a more streamlined appearance, a redesigned fuel tank, and a fresh front-end design adorned with Matrix LED headlights.
Under its sleek exterior, the R 1300 GS offers features such as adaptive vehicle height control, Dynamic Cruise Control, electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment, and four distinct ride modes for a tailored riding experience.
For those seeking additional safety and convenience, the R 1300 GS has features like Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning, and Lane Change Warning.
The 2024 BMW R 1300 GS is now available for order, starting at US$18,895. Additionally, a range of optional add-ons and accessories is offered, allowing riders to personalize their motorcycle to their liking.
