The old Facebook wall photos you’ve forgotten about may have been of value to Meta, which is stepping up its game in the world of artificial intelligence with the launch of Imagine with Meta AI, its new AI image generator.
The tool harnesses the power of Meta’s Emu image-synthesis model, which was developed using an extensive dataset of 1.1 billion images from public Facebook and Instagram posts.
Free to use, Imagine with Meta AI allows users to bring their textual descriptions to life in the form of photorealistic images.

Originally integrated within Meta’s chat tools, Imagine with Meta AI is now broadening its horizons. This expansion means more people—for now, in the US—can explore the creative potential of generative AI.

Each prompt yields four distinct images bearing a resolution of 1280×1280 pixels. These creations can be saved in JPEG format and feature a subtle ‘Imagined with AI’ watermark for transparency.

Meta has also implemented filters to maintain responsible use of the technology. The generator screens out content related to violence, explicit language, sexual themes, and specific names of celebrities or historical figures. However, it interestingly permits the generation of images involving some commercial characters like Elmo and Mickey Mouse, Ars Technica points out.
The app is web-based, widening access for both desktop and mobile users to transform their ideas into visual realities.
