If they profoundly listen to your needs, read your mind, and understand your quirks, they’re not your significant other but your MW75 Neuro, a first-of-its-kind pair of headphones by Master & Dynamic and brain-computer interface (BCI) company Neurable. This compelling device doesn’t just play music but also tunes into your mental state, optimizing your listening experience and well-being.

Based on the audio tech brand’s MW75 noise-canceling over-the-ear headphones, the core of the MW75 Neuro comprises  an advanced set of neural sensors to scan brain activity, a feature that marks its entry as the first BCI audio product. It utilizes this data to tailor your audio environment, reducing distractions when you’re deep in thought or suggesting breaks when you’re nearing mental fatigue, intending to foster an ideal mental space for whatever you’re doing.

For example, when intense focus is detected, the headphones can automatically switch on active noise cancellation and trigger a ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode on your connected phone to ensure an uninterrupted environment.

The story of these headphones starts at the University of Michigan with the Neurable team’s quest to harness artificial intelligence for better brain data interpretation. The result is a sleek set of headphones equipped with 12 electroencephalogram (EEG) channels and dry fabric EEG sensors that scan your brainwaves, all while maintaining a sleek design and sound quality.

To fully harness the capabilities of the MW75 Neuro, listeners will navigate between the Master & Dynamic app for audio controls and the Neurable app for brain-sensing functionalities, including a Focus Score.

Reducing the bulk typically associated with EEG technology, the Neuro boasts seamless integration, incorporating six instead of 22 hefty electrodes. At the same time, it offers the hallmark features of Master & Dynamic’s acclaimed MW75, including superior sound quality, adjustable EQ settings, and effective active noise cancellation (ANC).

As it seems, the tech was first showcased in a crowdfunding campaign launched by Neurable, but it now appears to have debuted in the Master & Dynamic MW75 Neuro. Backers of the original design will be among the first to enjoy the product under the Master & Dynamic name.

Priced at US$649, a modest US$50 premium over the standard MW75, the high-tech headphones are available in onyx, argent, olive, and navy colorways. They are set to hit the market in early 2024.

Beyond being made for listening to music or podcasts, the model aims to enhance your daily life by understanding your unique rhythms and delivering an audio experience that’s in sync with your state of mind.
