Google’s green bugdroid has been the face of Android for more than a decade, gracing the screens of non-iPhones worldwide. But as you know, change is inevitable, most especially in the tech world. Last year, the beloved character underwent a makeover, evolving into a 3D persona meant to better straddle the digital and physical realms.
Fast forward to CES 2024 in Las Vegas, and the big reveal is here—meet ‘The Bot’. That’s the moniker Google officially bestowed upon the alienlike mascot in a blog post detailing innovations it announced at the event.
Coming from a brand named Android, one would have expected something more… revolutionary. But maybe revolutionary was all the friends we made along the way.

At CES, Google also disclosed that it renamed ‘Nearby Share’ to ‘Quick Share’, joining forces with Samsung’s similar feature to enhance compatibility. Further, it introduced Google Cast support for LG TVs, making it easier for users to connect their devices across the tech spectrum, from smartphones and laptops to Bluetooth accessories, televisions, smart homes, and even cars. Additionally, Android Auto is getting an upgrade with real-time battery information sharing for electric vehicles compatible with Google Maps.
