Burger King Brazil is turning up the heat on the fast-food competition, this time with an attempt to take over an island.
You see, nestled in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Antarctica is the place known as—egads—McDonald Island. So, teaming up with advertising agency DM9 Brazil, the burger chain is proposing to rebrand the land as ‘Whopper Island’.
In a faux nature documentary, the King shares the reason why this plot of land deserves to be named after its burger, and not share the name of its rival. There’s an active volcano on the island, which is befitting of its flame-grilled burgers.
“A place with real fire cannot be called McDonald’s,” the narrator of the mockumentary proclaims.
As a friendly gesture, the company flew some Whoppers over to the island’s keepers, the only people authorized to visit, ensuring no disruption to the delicate ecosystem.
Burger King is also inviting patrons to help fan the flames and join this renaming adventure by looking up the island on Google Maps and using its exact coordinates (53°04’35.69”S, 73°30’49.18”E) to comment “#IlhaWhopper.” Those who participate in the campaign also have the chance to score a Whopper coupon.
“Together, we will correct this historic mistake, transforming McDonald Island into the Whopper Island,” Burger King shares.
