Microsoft Designs First Floating Xbox Controller To Commemorate ‘Dune: Part Two’

Microsoft is elevating the game experience, quite literally, with what it’s calling the “world’s first floating Xbox controller” to mark the release of Dune: Part 2 on March 1.
While the controller doesn’t actually defy gravity on its own, it’s mounted on a stand that does, creating an illusion straight out of the sci-fi epic. This release is part of a special tie-in that also features a custom-designed Xbox Series S, drawing inspiration from the movie’s iconic Ornithopter and the mesmerizing landscapes of Arrakis.

The controller itself is designed to mimic the Ornithopter’s ability to hover over Arrakis’s dunes. With that, fans won’t find this accessory on store shelves. Instead, the tech giant is giving them the chance to win this collector’s piece through a sweepstakes. By following Xbox on X (formerly Twitter) and retweeting its announcement, viewers can throw their hat in the ring from February 13 to March 25, 2024.

The giveaway aligns with the much-anticipated premiere of Dune: Part 2 and the debut of a Dune expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator on February 13. The latter invites players to navigate the treacherous deserts of Arrakis in an Ornithopter.

For those looking to dive deeper into the experience, Microsoft isn’t leaving you deserted. It’s setting up two life-size Royal Atreides Ornithopter gaming simulators, which will be available for players to explore the Dune expansion pack firsthand at the London Microsoft Experience Center on Oxford Circus starting February 16, and at the New York Microsoft Experience Center on Fifth Avenue beginning February 26.
