A gritty pair of boots caused quite the squeak at New York Fashion Week, reflecting the city’s notorious residents.
Dubbed the Ratboot and crafted by the freshly-minted New York branch of London-based Uncommon Creative Studio, its comically oversized soles are designed as a cage and housing for two plush rats. This design marries the high-brow elegance of Fashion Week with the city’s more rugged, rodent-infested reality.
New York City is home to an estimated three million rat population, with new litters born every two months. As described by Uncommon founder Nils Leonard, “If New York was a shoe it is this.”
This piece of footwear has nibbled its way to viral fame, amassing over 105 million views in less than two days, according to its creators.
More than being a pesty reveal, the Ratboot will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going to Mainely Rat Rescue, a charity dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of domestic rats.
