Heigh-ho, heigh… wuh-oh? LEGO has recently unveiled what could be a dream come true for Disney diehards: a set embodying Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ cottage. And yes, it took a while for this fairytale to transpire, but happily ever after is still a little ways down the road.
As first pointed out by The Verge, the set is reminiscent of a fan-created design (seen below) that was rejected not once but twice by the toymaker on the LEGO Ideas platform, even though the proposals amassed the required 10,000 supporters to persuade LEGO to bring them to life.
The fan behind the concept, known by the username Hanwasyellowfirst, envisioned a quaint cottage complete with a wishing well, seven cozy beds, pickaxes, and a sink. It goes without saying that the dream also included Snow White, her seven companions, and the Evil Witch in adorable minifigure form.
LEGO’s official 2,229-piece set echoes the same elements but turns the dial up on detail, introducing a bustling scene complete with a pipe organ, baking table, cupboards, a forest feature, and even a glass coffin for “Snow White’s awakening.”

The intricate kit also expands the cast to include the Prince and a collection of animal figures, creating a richly layered retelling of the classic tale.

Hanwasyellowfirst entered their design in 2019, and once more in 2021, but the company ultimately decided against producing it, citing its review criteria.
While LEGO congratulated the creator for amassing the expected number of votes, it continued: “Our team has thoroughly considered the possibility of releasing this project as a LEGO set according to the criteria of the LEGO Review. Unfortunately, the LEGO Review Board has decided that we will not produce this project as a set… We’re sorry to deliver this disappointing news.”
So, which one is the fairest of them all?
It’s not like the brand to go back on its word, so it’s highly possible that it was already developing its own Snow White cottage at the time the fan had pitched theirs. It’s also not surprising that both Hanwasyellowfirst’s work and LEGO’s official version look alike as the two are closely modeled after the house in Disney’s 1937 animation.

No matter, the freshly built cottage, carrying a price tag of US$219.99, is bound to enchant adult Disney lovers when it becomes available to LEGO Insiders from March 1 and the general public from March 4.
