Apple users, ever drifted off to sleep with your iPhone plugged in beside you? You’re certainly not alone. But the tech giant is urging users to rethink this bedtime habit, citing potential safety concerns.
The main worry is heat, as indicated on the Apple support website (via UNILAD). Phones, chargers, and even wireless pads generate warmth while juicing up your device. Snuggling up with them, especially under covers, can trap this heat, leading to discomfort or even burns.
In rare cases, if the heat isn’t properly released, or if there’s damage to the charging components, there’s even a slight fire risk.
So, how can you charge your iPhone safely while catching some Zzz’s? Apple suggests keeping it simple:
Charge in the open air
Find a nightstand or other well-ventilated spot for your phone to breathe while it powers up.
Stick with certified chargers
Opt for Apple-approved options or reputable third-party brands to minimize the risk of faulty components.
Give your phone some space
Avoid cuddling with your charging iPhone, or tucking it under your pillow.
If you have any conditions that make it difficult to sense heat, be extra cautious and consider alternative charging locations.
While the chances of serious incidents are low, following these tips can give you peace of mind and ensure your phone stays healthy throughout the night.
